Netflix just dropped the full trailer for Dumplin', starring Jennifer Aniston as a former Texan beauty queen whose teen daughter enters her beloved pageant as a "protest in heels".

The subscription streaming service's film adaptation of Julie Murphy's YA novel of the same name stars Danielle Macdonald as Willowdean Dickson, who is fed up with her mum's constant pageants.

You can watch Netflix's full trailer here:

Willowdean - or as her mum Rosie calls her, Dumplin' - signs up to enter the contest to prove something to herself, protesting the archaic beauty standards the age-old competitions inflict on her town.

"Pageants are harder than you think," Rosie fumes as she learns of her daughter's plans. "I'm Rosie Dixon's daughter, it runs in my blood," replies Willowdean.

The trailer, which was dropped ahead of the movie's 7th December Netflix release, sees Willowdean take on the mission with her best friend Ellen (Odeya Rush), who is constantly mistaken for Rosie's daughter. The friends look for help from a group of local drag queens, led by RuPaul's Drag Race star Ginger Minj.

"There's nothing in the rules that says big girls need not apply," points out another of Dumplin's friends at the trailer, who's also been inspired to enter the competition.

Dolly Parton's '9 To 5' is the trailer's soundtrack, and one queen shares one of the American singer's iconic quotes with Willowdean as she worries about her protest - 'find out who you are and do it on purpose'.

Dove Cameron appears as Bekah Cotter, the pageant contestant favoured to win, with the cast completed by Luke Benward as Will's love interest Bo.

From what fans can see so far, the film is a refreshing take on beauty pageants and body positivity, as it is clear that Willowdean doesn't feel that she is the one who needs to change but archaic standards society has set for us instead.

Social media users have reacted accordingly, with one tweeting: "I'm so excited for Dumplin' we love a plus size main character who isn't gonna be demonised."

Another exclaimed: "Dumplin' looks so good! Drag queens!! Jennifer Aniston!!! BODY POSITIVITY!!!!"

Dumplin' will drop on the subscription streaming platform next month.
