Ever since we said goodbye to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in Season 9 of The Walking Dead, we wondered when he would appear on our TV screens again.

But now, we've finally been given an indication.

And guys, it's SOON.

The Rick Grimes movie could be coming in 2021 (

Over on Twitter, director Rosemary Rodriguez - who has worked on the zombie apocalypse show since Season 7 - teased when we can expect Rick to return.

Answering a question posted on The Walking Dead's Twitter page - "What are you most looking forward to in 2021?" - Rosemary appeared to confirm Rick will be making a comeback in 2021.

"Finding Rick Grimes on the big screen!" Rosemary replied.

After Twitter went wild, Rosemary later added: "That's just my hope and dream... I'm expressing my hopes for 2021!"

Well, it certainly sounds very promising!

From what we know so far, the 'Rick Grimes movie' will pick up from when Rick exited the series along with Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh) after that helicopter ride.

Very few details have been given about the plot - with The Walking Dead boss Scott Gimple explaining in the autumn that the script was still being worked on. But, we do know it's a spin-off trilogy and considering it's dubbed the 'Rick Grimes movie', it's expected to reveal exactly what happened to Rick after he was last seen boarding the helicopter.

And when it comes to who will star, we've got everything crossed for the return of some favourites.

Much to the delight of fans, Michonne could also be making a return. Played by Danai Gurira, Scott explained Michonne - who left the series in Season 10 - will be returning to one of TWD spin-offs at some point.

"Absolutely. You'll be seeing Michonne, yeah," Scott Gimple told Collider.

"We're going to be telling stories with Michonne again. The end of her on the series was, in many ways, the start of the story."

It's expected the trilogy films will actually be released in cinemas as opposed to on our TV screens, but as ever this year, it really does depend on the ever-changing pandemic. More to follow as soon as we hear anything!
