After what felt like an eternity of patiently waiting, Peaky Blinders was FINALLY back on our screens last night.

It's safe to say that for many fans, the first episode of the fourth season met expectations and more, but as always there is no pleasing some.

Quite a few viewers however were left less-than-impressed by the accents on the show...

The Peaky Blinders are a Brummie based gang, but only one of member of the family on the series actually hails from Birmingham, meaning the actors and actresses have had to master the accent.

Still, plenty of fans claimed that they couldn't understand the actors' words as the episode aired on Wednesday night, and others complained about poor sound quality. More accused the Shelbys and co of mumbling their lines.

Fans rushed to Twitter to slam the show, focusing on the "terrible" Brummie accents.

"#PeakyBlinders Great TV but mumbling a problem again with dialogue. @BBCOneDrama I know the Brummy accent so please clarify the sound or I'll have to register as deaf," exclaimed one fan of the show.

A second angry viewer tweeted: "I honestly don't care how good an actor they are, if they can't do the accent they shouldn't get the role because they'll never be convincing if they don't sound like they've even been to the place they're supposed to be from. #PeakyBlinders4 #PeakyBlinders #accentgate."

"I love Peaky Blinders but their impressions of a Birmingham accent are terrible," added a third, while a fourth chimed in: "I notice some actors/actresses have still not mastered the Brummy accent in Peaky Blinders."

While a final fan questioned: "So as much as I love @ThePeakyBlinder could we not work on the Brummie accent a bit?!"

Harry Kirton, 19, who plays Finn Shelby on the beloved show, is one of the only Peaky Blinders actors who hails from where the cult drama is supposedly set.

He recently revealed that his co-stars often come to him for advice on perfecting the Brummie accent.

He explained to The Mirror: "People come to me asking if they're saying it right. I say, 'No, sorry'."

Well, at least he's honest!

Hazza continued: "Helen McCrory, who plays Polly Gray, does it sometimes, even though she doesn't need any tips whatsoever.

"She'll say, 'Harry, legit, does that sound okay?' Sometimes she'll just ask me to speak some lines then she'll be, 'Right, I've got it'."
