From The OA to Stranger Things; Netflix viewers have been spoilt with a plethora of gripping science-fiction shows - but none of them will compare to the streaming service's newest sci-fi horror hybrid, V Wars.

The vampire drama, which is based on the graphic comic series by Jonathan Maberry, follows scientist Dr Luther Swann and his best friend Michael Fayne as they face the evolving crisis of a deadly outbreak.

The outbreak, you ask? Well, the mysterious disease "will fracture society into opposing factions, escalating to a future war between humans and vampires."

The official synopsis on Netflix reads: "Dr. Luther Swann enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne, into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans.

"As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these 'vampires'.

"Swann races against time to understand what's happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires."

The fangtastic series will star The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder as Dr. Luther Swann (not actually a vampire this time round) while Adrian Holmes will play his best pal Michael Fayne.

Other stars appearing in the highly-anticipated sci-fi horror include Smallville's Laura Vandervoort, Beyond's Jacky Lai, The Whispers star Kyle Breitkopf and Kimberly-Sue Murray of Crimson Peak fame.

Details have been few and far between about the new 10-part series since it was announced last year and now the show's official social media confirmed that it will land on Netflix in December - I know, about bloody time!

The show's Instagram account posted: "If there's one thing standing between me and a horde of vampires it had better be @iansomerhalder! The V Wars are coming on December 5th, are you prepared?"

Neflix viewers will be able to sink their teeth in V Wars from Thursday, 5 December.
