We may have only just finished watching the second season of Netflix's superhero series The Umbrella Academy, but we're already in for a treat when it comes to the third series, according to the show's creator.

Steve Blackman, the man behind the hit TV show, revealed to fans that the adopted siblings could come up against an even more menacing threat in the show's third outing - and we can't wait!

The Umbrella Academy follows a group of adopted siblings who reunite to solve the mystery behind their father's death. The superhero series stars Ellen Page and Robert Sheehan and is based on a comic of the same name. Though a third season hasn't yet been confirmed, we're sure it's only a matter of time.

In the second season's finale, the siblings returned from the 1960s to the end of 2019, and found they'd messed with their present day timeline. Travelling back to an alternate universe, the siblings found their father and brother Ben were still alive.

The Umbrella Academy also had to deal with the news that their father, Reginald, had created a rival group, called The Sparrow Academy.

Blackman said that he hoped to be able to explore more of Reginald Hargreeves' back story in the third outing - and that the siblings could get a chance to work out their issues with him.

He said: "If you look carefully, he's our Hargreeves, but he looks a little different. It would be a good guess if we get another season that they have a chance to try to work out their issues.

"They did try in season two to some extent, but obviously that Hargreeves knew nothing about them. And you know, this Hargreeves is an older man, but they have a chance to sort of talk to him again, and hopefully they do better than they did in season two."

The show is now streaming on Netflix (

And the show's creator said he'd like to explore more of the history of the Hargreeves siblings too, in a third season.

"Trying to understand their origin is one of the themes we are going to address next year.

"The first season was meet the family. Season two was get to know the family. Season three is, who are we and where did we come from? What are we as superheroes? [That] is really a story I'd love to think about more in season three."

And what about that mysterious floating cube that suddenly appeared in the final scene?

Blackman added: "I think [the cube's purpose] will be revealed in season three, if we're lucky enough to be picked up."

Sounds exciting!
