Bread Week is often one of the most testing times in the Great British Bake Off tent, but this year was nothing short of incredible, and it was mostly down to one baker.

Last night viewers fell in love Rahul, who was not only crowned as star baker, but was also named "a little genius" by judge Paul Hollywood.

However, it wasn't Rahul's brilliant bread-making abilities that won the heart of the nation, but his endearing and quintessentially British nature.

After telling Noel and Sandi: "I'm not confident with anything happening in my life, so how would my baking temperature be any different," Rahul went on to apologise to Paul, insisting that his bread was 'awful'.

Clearly, Rahul was just lacking in confidence rather than lacking in baking ability as Paul and Prue praised his 'perfect' Chelsea buns.

Needless to say, viewers fell in love with Rahul's self-deprecating nature with many rushing to Twitter to their love for the baker.

One viewer tweeted: "Honestly, you could marry Rahul and he'd apologise for making you walk down the church aisle. He's adorable but STOP BEING SO APOLOGETIC KING. #GBBO."

Another added: "I love Rahul. Summing up being British by apologising all the time #GBBO."

The Great British Bake Off continues at 8pm on Tuesday on Channel 4.
