New Crime Drama 'Traces' Starring 'Line Of Duty' Star Martin Compston Is Coming Next Month

The crime drama follows Emma Hedges, a lab assistant who realised the fictitious case she's working of resembles her dead mother's.

Fans who have been eagerly awaiting new Martin Compston-starring drama, Traces, will be pleased to know it's coming to screens in less than a month.

The six-part crime drama will start on Monday 9th December, airing on Alibi, with the Line of Duty actor taking on a love interest roles.

Traces is set in Dundee, Scotland and follows Emma Hedges, played by Molly Windsor from Cheat and Three Girls, who takes up a position as a lab assistant at The Scottish Institute of Forensic Science, taking an online course that teaches forensic principles.

She soon realises the fictitious study she's given to work on - set by Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser), Breaking Bad), professor of chemistry, and Kathy Torrence (Jennifer Spence, You, Me, Her), professor of forensic anthropology - resembles that of her mother, who was murdered when she was seven.

Emma turns to Kathy and Sarah who putter in touch with DI McKinven (Michael Nardone). She also reconnects with her dad Drew (John Gordon Sinclair, World War Z), childhood friend Skye (Jamie Marie Leary, Clique), her mum Izzy (Laurie Brett, Waterloo), while falling for Daniel, played by Martin Compston.

Emma is then driven to uncover the truth of what really happened, realising she cannot trust anyone along the way.

"It will be Sarah and Kathy's exacting minds that reward Emma's faith in the science that has fuelled her imagination, and who will ultimately bring her mother's killer to justice," reads the synopsis.

The series is written by written by Amelia Bullmore, and is based on an original idea by best-selling crime writer Val McDermid.

UKTV drama commissioner Philippa Collie Cousins said of the show: "With strong female characters, this is Happy Valley meets Silent Witness, a dark and exciting show that I can't wait for us to get cracking on."

She added: "When the idea came over from RED it genuinely made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Traces starts on Monday 9th December, airing on Alibi on Sky channel 132.
