We knew anything with Line of Duty star Martin Compston starring would be an instant hit with us - and it seems everyone else agrees to.

Six-part series Traces, which premiered on Alibi last night, is already proving a winner with fans, who are saying they're "hooked" on the crime drama already.

Traces is set in Dundee, Scotland, and follows Emma Hedges (Molly Windsor of Cheat and Three Girls), who takes up a position as a lab assistant at The Scottish Institute of Forensic Science, taking an online course in forensic principles.

She soon realises the fictitious study she's given to work on - set by professor of chemistry Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser, Breaking Bad) and professor of forensic anthropology Kathy Torrence (Jennifer Spence, You, Me, Her) - resembles that of her mother, who was murdered when she was seven.

Emma turns to Kathy and Sarah who put her in touch with DI McKinven (Michael Nardone) to investigate the case. Along the way, she reconnects with her dad Drew (John Gordon Sinclair, World War Z), childhood friend Skye (Jamie Marie Leary, Clique), her mum Izzy (Laurie Brett, Waterloo), while falling for love interest Daniel, played by Martin Compston.

The first episode aired on Monday night and instantly, people are obsessing over the drama.

"Never been hooked to a show straight from the start as quick as this. @alibi_channel #traces ," said one person on Twitter.

"Started to watch #Traces am hooked have downloaded the whole series," added another.

"Hooked on 'Traces' on Alibi and we're only 20 minutes in! #Traces," said a third.

Traces is available to watch on Alibi on Sky channel 132, Virgin 126 and BT & TalkTalk 312, weekly on Mondays, or you can binge the whole thing on demand now.

Speaking about his role in Traces, Compston said it it was a departure from the brooding character's he's used to such as Line of Duty's Steve Arnott.

"It was the sort of part I hadn't played for a while," the 35-year-old actor told The Guardian.

"Daniel's a nice guy trying to do the right thing and then he's got this wee firecracker in his life [Emma Hedges], they sort of consume each other. His head is a bit of a mess when we meet him and things just get more wild."
