ITV viewers admitted they were in tears last night during Piers Morgan's Life Stories as the presenter and journalist sat down with TOWIE royalty, Gemma Collins.

Gemma broke down on a number of occasions during the interview, particularly when Piers quizzed the 40-year-old on her relationship with TOWIE co-star James 'Arg' Argent, as well as the cruel trolling she has received online.

At one point in the chat, Gemma told Piers she had previously felt suicidal.

After seeing a clip of Arg, Gemma broke down in tears, telling Piers: "He was really well then. For anyone who ever thinks about taking drugs, or just trying it for one night, you can end up getting really addicted... I was really happy with James... We did get on. But the drugs changed him as a person.

"I fought every day for three years to get him well... I have felt suicidal... When my relationship broke down with Arg, that affected me, I just thought I don't want to be here anymore, I can't take it.

"I saved his life three times... I had this insatiable love for him, I never wanted to give up on him."

Meanwhile, Gemma also spoke about online trolling. After watching a clip of people talking about the vile abuse she has received, Gemma became visibly upset, telling Piers: "That's hard to watch. I've, well you don't forget it but that's the downside to fame. I'm a lot more comfortable now in my own skin.

"Once, I was taking my mum for lunch, a van pulled up and they started abusing me. It wasn't for me, I felt so hurt that that happened in front of my mum."

Telling Piers the trolls had called her "a fat c***" and a "fat cow", Gemma continued that she has always used food as something she uses to comfort herself with.

"If I'm happy I eat, if I'm sad I eat," she said. "But I think it's about dealing with your emotions and trying to find a way of dealing with them in a healthy way and not turning to something that can harm you. Because it is like a form of self-harm."

And fans were emotional after watching the interview, with one saying the doc showed Gemma's "human side".

"Nearly in tears, people are truly awful and this has shown such a human side to Gemma Collins," one wrote.

"Gemma Collins on Life Stories got me in literal tears," added another.

Meanwhile another fan commented: "Seriously @missgemcollins. I have just crumbled into a withering sobbing wreck watching life stories with @piersmorgan."

"Crying watching Gemma Collins... honest, open and touching," added a fourth.

Elsewhere another tweeted: "Watching Gemma Collins on Pierce Morgan and it's actually so sad the bullying she gets."

Since the interview aired last night, Gemma thanked Piers for being so kind and understanding.

"Thank you @piersmorgan for being so kind and understanding, behind the GC facade there is just a girl from Romford with BIG DREAMS !!!" She wrote.

"Everyone can do it you just need to BELIEVE. THANK YOU to all my family and friends for standing by me through the highs and lows. The journey continues....The only way is UP.

"... I will continue on my journey, I have learnt a lot, made mistakes and been above my stations and I'm sorry for that!!! But I have grown!!! Here's to the next chapter."
