Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby left fans confused on Tuesday as they shared a selfie sitting side-by-side side at Wimbledon, despite socially distancing every day in the workplace.

The TV pair beamed in a snaps shared on their Instagram, as they enjoyed the popular tennis event.

But it left some This Morning baffled, as they are used to seeing the pair social distance from each other in the ITV studio.

"Why do holly and Phil sit so far apart on this morning but at Wimbledon they are touching heads they are that close ??," one person questioned.

While another penned: "@thismorning anyone care to explain why Holly and Phil sit apart on This Morning, but sit together at Wimbledon?"

"The way Phil & Holly can go to Wimbledon without social distancing, but ITV says they still need to sit 2 metres apart for #ThisMorning," a third wrote.

It comes after the pair spent much of yesterday's segment speaking to a doctor about the importance of wearing masks and social distancing even when 'freedom day' arrives.

"When we see @Schofe and @hollywills posting selfies face to face at Wimbledon, then discussing the wearing of masks 2m apart on the TV @DrNighatArif, very frustrating for those of us who follow guidelines..," another follower said.

It's worth noting that Phil and Holly didn't break any guidelines by sitting next to each other at Wimbledon, as the outdoor sporting event was allowed to go ahead in line with the easing of lockdown, and everyone attending had to do a test 48 hours prior to arrival.

Attendees at Wimbledon were also permitted to take their masks off when seated, and both wore masks when walking around.

While social distancing is still advised, hugging has also been allowed since May 17th, so Phil and Holly standing next to each other briefly for a snap isn't breaking any rules.

The risk of the pair sitting closely together in the This Morning studio is also much greater, seeing as they're indoors, which explains why they are still social distancing.

However, it's understandable that their close contact may have confused some people.
