Reunions seem to be a major theme in the final series of Game of Thrones, with writers of the show treating us loyal viewers by bringing together characters that have often spent years apart.

So far there has been Arya and Jon, Jon and Bran and Arya and Gendry to name a few of the best, but perhaps the most emotional reunion we've seen so far this series came on Monday night between Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy.

After making the decision to return to Winterfell to fight in solidarity with the Starks in the Battle of Winterfell, encouraged by his sister Yara who is sailing to the Iron Islands, Theon is summoned by Queen Danyres, who is joined by Sansa.

"I want to fight for Winterfell, Lady Sansa. If you'll have me," Theon says. Sansa then visibly tears up before running to hug Theon.

Viewers everywhere were left with a lump in their throats after the reunion and it's been one of the most-talked about plot points of the episode, with many noting Sansa didn't even cry when she was reunited with Jon or Arya.

Sansa and Theon's reunion hits a particular chord due the what the pair have been through together, namely the unspeakable cruelty at the hands of Ramsay Bolton.

Theon was Sansa's closest ally when she was under Ramsay's control, despite Theon being brainwashed by Ramsay's brutal torture. Similarly, Sansa was the only one who tried to remind the broken Theon, named 'Reek' by Ramsay, who he truly was. In one difficult scene during season six, Theon does not help Sansa when Ramsay forces him to watch him rape Sansa.

However, Theon's unwillingness to help Sansa seemed to be forgiven at the end of season six when he helped Sansa escape from the confines of Winterfell. The pair last saw each other when Sansa left for Castle Black to find Jon Snow to protect her from Ramsay.

The pair's close bond and their emotional reunion in series eight has even lead way to a rather interesting fan theory that the pair are in love.

At the end of the latest episode, Sansa and Theon decided to share what could be their final meal together, with some fans swearing they spotted some affectionate glances.

Whether there is something more to the pair's relationship, or they simply share a bond due to their joint trauma, remains to be seen.

One thing's for sure, episode three is sure to see some reunited couples part once more as the Battle of Winterfell kicks off, with likely deadly results.

Eek.
