Netflix has already reportedly renewed The Umbrella Academy for a second season, after the first premiered on the streaming giant earlier this month.

It's clear that the comic-book series has been a success with the streaming giant's subscribers as it is all people can talk about on Twitter.

The subscription streaming platform is based on the novel of the same name by former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.

Starring Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton and Mary J. Blige plus more, the fever-dream dramedy centres around a dysfunctional band of 'estranged siblings with extraordinary powers', reunited by their dad's death.

And according to The GWW, Netflix has already renewed the comic book adaptation for a second season, set to go into production in Toronto, Canada, later this year.

Peter Hoar, who directed the pilot and tenth episode of season one, will return for the first episode, the website reports.

As for Netflix, the streaming giant hasn't confirmed whether it's bringing back The Umbrella Academy for this rumoured second season but fans are super excited regardless.

Robert Sheehan (who plays Klaus Hargreeves/Number Four) previously said the show's creators are already 'developing' ideas for a follow-up series.

"A few little ideas have been thrown around, absolutely," he told Collider.

"I know that it's Netflix's way wait until something has come out because it has to be seen before they will officially commission, but I know that they've been developing ideas and stuff for a second [season] because they have high hopes for the series.

"They're getting ahead of themselves, which is always a good sign. So, there's definitely been some conversations had about where the family would go, for the season."

While Netflix doesn't release its viewing statistics, data firm Parrot Analytics says that The Umbrella Academy is sitting in top of digital original series in the US.
