'The Nest' Fans Are Only Just Realising Siobhan Is A Major 'Harry Potter' Star

The Nest came to a dramatic conclusion on Monday as we finally found out whether rich power-couple Dan and Emily (Martin Compston and Sophie Rundle) would get their happy ending, and whether their surrogate Kaya (Mirren Mack) was really a child killer.

The Scottish TV series has been packed with drama and cliffhangers at every turn, leaving most viewers positively glued to their screens.

But there were two very distracting additions to the cast that a few people at home just *couldn't* quite get over.

Yep, we are of course talking about Harry Potter's own Moaning Myrtle and Cho Chang.

In case you're one of those who missed it, Kaya's mum Siobhan was played by Shirley Hendseron - who also starred as the distinctively voiced Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter franchise.

Shirley appeared in both Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets back in 2002 and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005 - and the films used CGI to make her look like a school girl, when she was actually in her 30s.

Of course, she's starred in several more smash-hits since then, including Bridget Jones' Diary, where she played the protagonist's shy and unassuming pal, Jude.

But, as is pretty much always the way with Harry Potter's biggest names, she's just not been able to shake the Warner Bros casting ever since.

"Can't watch the nest without thinking about that maw being moaning myrtle from Harry Potter! THAT VOICE !!!," one viewer wrote after clocking Shirley's past role.

While another added: "Canny believe the maw in the nest is moaning myrtle I knew I recognised that voice (sic)".

Several more simply couldn't separate the actress from the Hogwarts ghost, even referring to Siobhan as if her character Siobhan and Myrtle were the same person.

"Moaning Myrtle has ruined EVERYTHING #TheNest," one fan wrote towards the end of the show, as things looked to be taking a bad turn for Kaya.

As another joked: "Moaning Myrtle and her crutch cannot be trusted #TheNest".

If one Harry Potter star wasn't distracting enough, it didn't take viewers long to spot that reporter, Eleanor, was also played by Cho Chang actress, Katie Leung.

You know, Harry's first kiss? The one who made no doubt made Ginny Weasley (and 13 year old girls across the country) green with envy?!

"Cho Chang and Moaning Myrtle together once again #thenest," one viewer wrote after spotting the characters' funny connection.

While another echoed: "Been watching #TheNest and every single time they were in a scene I would shout 'there's Cho Chang and there's Moaning Myrtle' - it's like my brain refuses to see past #HarryPotter".

Since Harry Potter stardom, Leung has also been cast as a nurse in T2 Trainspotting and Jackie Chan's daughter in The Foreigner.

Both actresses gave striking performances in the BBC drama, working together as they attempted to out millionaires Dan and Emily for paying Kaya £50,000 to have their baby.

While Eleanor got the article she'd been digging so hard for, it wasn't as rosy for Siobhan, who was confronted with the truth about her dark past, and fled, leaving her daughter alone.

The Nest, was penned by BAFTA Award winning Three Girls writer, Nicole Taylor.

Alongside the Harry Potter stars it boasts an impressive cast, with Compston having previously starred as a running lead in Line Of Duty while Rundle is best known for her roles in Gentleman Jack and Peaky Blinders.

The Nest first aired on BBC One on Sunday March 22nd, and is available to watch in full on BBC iPlayer now.
