'Mary Poppins Returns' Producers Reveal Magic Behind Bath Scene

Mary Poppins Returns producers have revealed the camera tricks behind one of the most magical scenes in the recently released sequel flick in a new short film.

In one scene of the new movie, Mary falls through a bathtub into a enchanted underwater land.

While most viewers just presumed they made it look like Emily Blunt was falling through the bath using CGI, it has been revealed that she actually did it in real life.

The short film, titled Mary Poppins: Making the Impossible, has revealed the more technical aspects behind the scene.

Emily explained: "As much as possible they built practical sets that you can interact with.

"They actually carved a hole in the bottom of the bath and had a slide that went under the stage.

"But it was a drop. It was fast and steep and then they filled this bath with bubbles and you just dropped down.

"So the kids did theirs 20 times; I think I did it twice."

Accompanying Emily's explanation was a video of her letting go of the side of the bath and falling into it before a camera underneath caught her whizzing down a purpose-built slide.

Social media users were also pretty excited about the trick, and one fan wrote: "I think this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen."

A second tweeted: "Imagine being the person who had to build that entire tub and slide all for a two second part of the movie."

It also sounds like fans might be treated to even more magical tricks as a sequel is reportedly underway.

Director Rob Marshall confirmed that the production team are already looking at a follow-up, which would see Emily Blunt return as the beloved nanny.
