'Tis the season for a scare and nothing terrified us more growing up than ghostly horror trilogy The Grudge.
And now the spine-tingling film franchise is getting a fresh reboot nine years on from 2011's The Grudge 3, which is poised to hit cinemas on 3 January 2020.

Directed by Nicolas Pesce, the new instalment is set to combine the most crucial and frightening elements of Takashi Shimizu's plot with a new storyline, which takes place at the same time as the 2004 flick but in America rather than Japan.
This time around, movie goers will follow a cop, played by Andrea Riseborough, investigating the reasons behind a woman murdering her own family.
In the wake of the murders, the family home has been cursed, with the rage and sadness from the crime inflicted upon the people who live there.

Speaking of the new plot, Pesce told Entertainment Weekly in September: "We follow her, as well as two other storylines, that are all interacting with this grudged house in small town America...
"Like the old films, it's a tapestry of three different stories that interweave, and all take place at slightly different times, centred around this one house that's at the centre of this case that this cop is working on."
In addition to Riseborough, the reboot stars Jacki Weaver, John Cho, William Sadler, Demián Bichir, Betty Gilpin, and Lin Shaye.
Just this week, the first poster for the forthcoming reboot was unveiled and coincided with the 15th anniversary of the 2004 English-language remake of the modern Japanese horror classic.

The first image paid homage to the infamous shower scene from the original when Karen, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, feels a hand gripping the back of her head while she showers.
If the poster is anything to go by, we have a feeling that there will more eerie moments and scream-inducing scenes with the upcoming release.
The Grudge is expected to hit UK cinemas on 3 January 2020.
