If there's one movie release we're mega excited for in 2021, it's The Conjuring 3.

Although the movie was supposed to hit cinemas back in September, like most films, it was delayed due to the pandemic.

But we reckon it'll definitely be worth the wait - here's everything you need to know about the spooky sequel.

What is The Conjuring 3 about?

Well, the third chapter in the franchise is called The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Following on from the first film, released in 2013, and The Conjuring 2 - which hit cinemas three years later - the third movie will track the real-life trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, who was found guilty of manslaughter in Connecticut in 1981.

Arne claims the killing took place after he was possessed by a demon. As Warner Bros explain: "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

"One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defence."

Meanwhile, speaking about the plot, creator James Wan said one of the main aims of the third movie was to move away from the "haunted house" theme.

"I really wanted The Conjuring 3 to get away from the whole haunted house set-up of the first two Conjuring films," he said.

"It should be more on a whole different level, something that we've never explored before in the Conjuring world."

Who will star in The Conjuring 3?

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will return as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Meanwhile, Ruairi O'Connor will play Arne.

The third film also has a new director - Michael Chaves.

Is there a trailer?

There's no trailer just yet, but earlier this week, Warner Bros treated us to a 33-minute first look behind the scenes.

You can watch it below:

In the behind the scenes video, Vera discusses the case, explaining: "The trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, this was an internationally-renowned case which was the first time in the history of law in the United States that demonic possession was used as a reason for committing manslaughter."

Meanwhile, director Michael Chaves added: "We wanted to keep our new story grounded in the feel of Conjuring movies, but we wanted to make sure we were telling a brand new story.

"And we think the Arne Johnson story is something that really deserved a much closer look."

When will The Conjuring 3 be released?

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will be released on 4th June 2021 - and by the sounds of it, it will definitely be worth the wait!
