We've been eagerly awaiting 'Peaky Blinders' series five for what feels like an eternity, and now fans can finally enjoy a sneak preview of the new season thanks to a video posted by BBC iPlayer.

The trailer, posted on Twitter, informs fans that every episode of the Birmingham gangster drama show is back on iPlayer - and while there are lots of scenes from previous series, mega fans will be able to spot brand new footage from the as yet unseen fifth season.

In the trailer you can see a first look at Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, as he becomes the newly elected MP of Birmingham South. He seems to be ready to deliver a speech - but he's also sporting a black eye, suggesting that there's trouble ahead.

Cillian will be joined by Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Kate Phillips and Natasha O'Keefe, who will all reprise their roles in the new series.

The official series five synopsis reads: "Series five of Steven Knight's crime family saga finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929.

"Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy) is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family's future but that of the entire nation."

Fans were also teased about a "big surprise" that will become clear in the new series, after the show's Instagram account posted a photo of a gun and a bloody clapperboard, along with the caption: "First day back on set for #PeakyBlinders Series 5. You're sure of a big surprise."

We can hardly wait.

Peaky Blinders will returns in 2019, and will move from BBC Two to BBC One.
