Supernanny returned to screens on Monday for the first time since 2008, with a brand new US series on E4.

But fans were given a harsh reminder of Jo Frost's cut-throat approach when she made one mum break down in tears while criticising her parenting style.

While visiting Jessica and CJ Braido, it was clear to Jo why their eldest daughter Riley, four, was misbehaving.

And after witnessing the little girl throw a huge tantrum at a restaurant when she found out she had to leave because of her unsettled younger brothers, Jo had some home truths for the parents.

Check out a clip below:

Taking them both for a chat, Jo said that Riley wanted more than anything to "connect with her mum and dad," suggesting her three younger brothers take up a large majority of the parents' time.

"That's why you saw the meltdown yesterday, " Jo explained.

"She's like, 'I'm done. Take these siblings away.' Because guess what having those siblings around means to her? She don't have a relationship with you both..."

Jessica looked crushed by Jo's observation, but accepted it.

"I know, and it's terrible. I know it's terrible," she sobbed.

Jo went on to suggest the parents relied too heavily on the "reliable dependable electronic babysitter," to keep Riley occupied and solve their problems.

While the couple had both previously been against it, they accepted sometimes it felt like the only option.

The conversation then turned to how the parents could make small changes to balance their time more efficiently, and prevent burnout.

"I can't stand giving a bath every single night," Jessica told her husband, before turning to Jo and explaining: "I'm wanting him to do it sometimes."

But Jo said it couldn't all be blamed on CJ, adding: "If you're about controlling everything and then you turn around and you say 'oh well I have to do everything', that's playing martyr."

She added: "You need to let go a bit".

To CJ, she explained: "It's hard for mum to do that if she cannot trust you to follow through and do the job."

Jo's speech came after observing the family closely to see how they functioned.

In another heartbreaking scene, she'd asked little Riley if her mummy ever played toys with her.

"Mummy is busy," Riley responded, as the camera panned to Jessica soothing her baby brother Gage.

"Ah, okay," replied Jo. "What about daddy?"

"Daddy's busy too," Riley said.

Speaking about her American Supernanny journey on Lorraine recently, Jo admitted that it was no walk in the park.

Speaking to Christine Lampard, she said: "It was a journey with respect to travelling around America and helping these families because it wasn't always easy.

"I can think of several times I was actually kicked out of the house, they didn't want me there."

One thing is for sure, Jo's advice might not be easy to hear, but she's got a track record that nobody can argue with.
