As Stranger Things season 3 came to an end last year, there was one question on everyone's lips: 'Is Jim Hopper really dead?'

And while the conspiracy theorists went wild convincing themselves there was still hope, we've got some bad news for you.

Yep, according to the official cast list for the fourth instalment of the Netflix series on IMDB, David Harbour is not making a comeback after his character sacrificed himself for the kids from the UpsideDown. (SOB).

Eagle-eyed fans noticed the actor was missing from the list as it emerged recently, in evidence many thought dashed hope of a dramatic revival.

The Stranger Things cast's main characters, including Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Will (Noah Schnapp) are all confirmed to be appearing in the next series, while David's character Hopper is nowhere to be seen.

Pointing out David's absence on reddit, one user wrote: "If you click on the episode guide on the right of each actor's name, the drop down menu shows the first few episodes of Stranger Things 4 for all the kids, including the older "kids" Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Robin (Maya Hawke).

"However, only one adult, Winona Ryder, is showing as a definite for season four."

While the news is certainly damning for Hopper truthers, there's still a glimmer of hope.

IMDB is only showing the cast list up to episode seven, so there's every chance he could make a dramatic return later on down the line.

Speaking at German Comic Con, David Harbour seemed as clueless as us about his character's return.

He said: "We don't know yet, we don't know. They won't tell me anything, so we'll have to see.

"I think you'll find out at some point, we'll find out at some point. Let's hope he's alive."

Either he's being kept in the dark too, or he's a very good bluffer!
