A new move from Sky means that upcoming movies will be available to watch at home on the same day as the cinema release.

The change will come as welcome news to people practising social distancing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For all those self-isolating, you'll still be able to catch up on exciting new films.

Sky has teamed up with NBCUniversal to make a range of movies available to rent at home through the Sky Store, coinciding with the global premieres.

Major releases like The Hunt, The Invisible Man and Emma will all be available on-demand on Sky Store this coming Friday (March 19th) following their recent cinema debuts.

Younger viewers will be kept entertained too. The first film made available will be DreamWorks Animation's Trolls World Tour, which drops 6th April and is the sequel to the Trolls blockbuster.

Stephen van Rooyen, EVP & CEO, Sky UK and Europe said of the move: "We're working hard at Sky to make sure we continue to look after our customers.

"We're also introducing some things to help make life a little easier for anyone at home trying to work, stay connected to loved ones, or keep the family entertained."

Sky's announcement comes as the UK government strongly advised the British public to work from home and avoid, pubs, clubs, restaurants, galleries and mass gatherings to slow the spread of COVID-19.

With communities across the world making changes to how they work, communicate and culturally engage, companies are having to follow suit and adapt their services.

With the public spending more time indoors in the coming months, Sky is working hard to ensure services like its Broadband, Talk and Mobile services are as efficient and reliable as possible.

So, while we won't be kicking back in a multiplex with a bucket of popcorn for some time, we can at least enjoy shiny new movies from the comfort of our own living rooms.
