If you're a fan of Sir David Attenborough and his groundbreaking nature documentaries, (and let's be honest, who isn't?) we have brilliant news for you: the legend's new nature series Our Planet has hit Netflix and it's set to teach viewers some incredibly powerful lessons about climate change.

The 8-partseries will do what 92-year-old Sir David does best and reveal the glory of nature, with never-before-seen footage of magnificent wilderness areas and the animals that live there. This series also takes an in-depth look at how rapidly our planet is altering due to climate change, and the impact this is having on our animals, which has already drawn praise from viewers impressed by the message of the fragility of our planet and what we can do to help.

A one-off Sir David Attenborough film, Climate Change - The Facts, set for release on BBC One on April 18th, will take an even deeper look at the science of climate change and the potential solutions to the global threat.

The first episode of Our Planet takes a look at "seabirds carpet-bombing the ocean to wildebeests eluding the wild dogs of the Serengeti", while follow-up episodes focus on everything from polar bears and walruses struggling with global warming to orangutans and ants living side by side in jungles and rainforests. There will be lots of behind-the-scenes footage too.

Netflix encourages viewers to "share the wonder of the one place we call home", and says that the series will "explore the unique and precious wonders of our natural world from the creators of the award-winning series Planet Earth".

The streaming giant describes the series as an "ambitious" project and says it has been filmed in 50 countries with 600 members of crew.

"In partnership with World Wildlife Fund, Our Planet combines stunning photography and technology with an unprecedented, never-before-filmed look at the planet's remaining wilderness areas and their animal inhabitants," Netflix said in a statement.

Speaking about the series, Sir David said viewers would be treated to a "spectacular journey".

"Our Planet will take viewers on a spectacular journey of discovery showcasing the beauty and fragility of our natural world," he said.

"Today we have become the greatest threat to the health of our home but there's still time for us to address the challenges we've created, if we act now.

"We need the world to pay attention. Our Planet brings together some of the world's best filmmakers and conservationists and I'm delighted to help bring this important story to millions of people worldwide."

All eight episodes of the first series are available to stream now on Netflix: time to cancel all weekend plans, stats. This calls for some serious bingeing.
