The synopsis for the show teases: "To understand the origins and true impact of the business of drugs, a former CIA analyst investigates the economics of six illicit substances."
In a recently released trailer, we're given a glimpse into the drugs trade, with expert analysis and interviews with dealers as well as former addicts.
The series takes a look at what happens to the body when a person takes drugs, as well as the lengths people will go to to get their fix.

"The war on drugs costs millions of dollars and thousands of lives," former CIA analyst Amaryllis Fox says, "and the only way we're going to understand how to bring it to an end is to understand the economics that drive it."
"This is a global multi-billion dollar business," Fox, who presents the series, continues.
Investigating the economic impact of drugs, Fox tracks the journey of meth through Myanmar, looks into the current opioid crisis and also investigates the effects of a new legal weed market.

Describing the drugs industry as "massive", an expert goes on to explain just how huge it is: "Two billion meth pills being produced, per year, and McDonalds doesn't make that many Big Macs in a year."
And it looks like we're in safe hands. Host Amaryllis Fox worked for the CIA for many years after an algorithm she created while at university caught the attention of the foreign intelligence service.
She is also married to Robert F. Kennedy III, grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, who was John F. Kennedy's brother.

The documentary series promises to tell the real story behind this industry, but Fox says the problem hasn't gone away.
"The war on drugs has not made a dent," she continues, "in fact the problem's worse than ever."
