The 61-year-old dancer and BBC presenter was alerted to a lump under her arm by several worried viewers, and so she went to get it checked out.
Alongside a video explaining what was going on, Shirley wrote: "So blood work back. A little concerning so doctor is making an appointment at Kings to check certain odd things happening in my body, I won't go into the details at the moment.
"Anyway to each and every one of you who started me on this road thank you so much.
"I'll keep you all updated each and every one of you. Remember health is wealth so I'll be on top of these issues for the time being. With gratitude to you all."
In the video, Shirley also thanked the viewers who'd spotted the concerning lump.
She said: "Since several of you thought they saw a lump under my arm and I went to get that checked. Then the doctor said that she thought my levels were not right. My hormone levels weren't right. So I went and had a lot of blood work done."
Shirley then revealed that blood tests found her testosterone levels were "ultra high", her oestrogen levels were "extremely low" and that she now needs a scan on her adrenal glands and ovaries.
"All in all a little concerning for my doctor," Shirley said, adding that she was due to go in for an appointment at Kings Hospital, London.
"And all because several concerned people bothered to let me know what was going on.
"I love you all, I appreciate you and thank you," she added.
Many celebrities were quick to share their love and support with the TV presenter, with Giovanna Fletcher writing: "Sending you so much love! Xxx"
Fellow Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse wrote: "Take care of yourself :heart:", while Tess Daly commented: "Sending love Shirley xxx :heart:."
Meanwhile, John Whaite, who is dancing with Johannes Radebe in this year's show, wrote: "Sending you so much love Shirley :heart:."
We wish you all the best, Shirley!
