Riverdale Season 5 will be arriving on our screens in January, and now creators have treated fans to a first look on Instagram.

Posted by creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the very eery picture appears to be of a dead person resurrecting out of a misty river.

"Nothing stays buried forever... #Riverdale Season Five coming soon," the post reads, alongside a series of emojis including a key, a graduation hat and an engagement ring.

Hmm, very intriguing! But what does it mean?! Could Riverdale be bringing back a dead character?

Well, many fans think it could be Cheryl's brother, Jason Blossom - especially considering Jason's body was found in Sweetwater River.

One person wrote: "WAIT WTF JASONS BACK."

Meanwhile, others focused on the engagement ring emoji, with many hoping it could mean a Betty and Jughead wedding in the upcoming season.

"I'm the only one who cries with excitement when I look at the last ring emoji. Will Jughead and Betty get married or could Veronica be the one to marry someone else? I don't know but I'm excited," one tweeted.

The fifth season of the show is expected to begin with the last few episodes of Season 4, due to production getting shut down back in March after a team member came into contact with somebody who had tested positive for Covid-19.

For this reason, Season 4 was forced to be made shorter, which now means Season 5 will be extra long.

It'll show the group's graduation and their prom as they leave Riverdale High, before shooting forward seven years into the future, as planned.

While it's not yet confirmed who will return to star in the fifth instalment, it's thought main characters Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) will all return.

Riverdale returns to our screens on 21st January 2021. Counting down the days...
