Seann William Scott - who we're certain you'll recognise as Stifler from the American Pie films - has joined the cast for the US remake of This Country.

Writers of popular BBC sitcom, siblings Charlie Cooper and Daisy May Weston (nee Cooper), recently sold the rights to Bridesmaid mastermind, Paul Feig, who is now working on a US version.

The American version of the Cotswolds-based show will be set in Ohio, where leading characters Kurtan and Kerry have been renamed as cousins Kelly and Shrub Mallet.

Seann, 43, will take on the role of community leader, Father Joe and if the character is anything like The Vicar in the British version, it's a very different role to Seann's days of playing mischievous teen, Stifler.

The mockumentary-style show, written by Sex and the City's Jenny Bicks, sees Kelly and Shrub followed by documentary camera crews, similar to the UK version.

Daisy and Charlie will be executive producers on the US show (

The cousins, who can be seen arguing and fighting over frozen pizza all the while doing their best to follow their dreams, are a challenge for optimistic Father Joe. As a role model, however, he resolves to keep a calm head.

Lionsgate TV are producing the show along with BBC Studios, Fox Entertainment and Feigco Entertainment.

Daisy May and Charlie will also be working on the US version as executive producers.

Seann is well-known for his role in the American Pie franchise but has also starred in Lethal Weapon and Bloodline.

Meanwhile, the UK version of This Country has just returned for a final series. Airing last week, on Monday 17th February, the majority of the cast has returned to the fictional village.

Paul Chahidi, who plays Reverend Francis Seaton, as well as Ashley McGuire who plays Mandy Harris have both reprised their roles.

Season 3 of UK This Country continues on Mondays on BBC One at 10.35pm.
