Heads up, horror fans, because Sarah Paulson's chilling new series Ratched lands on Netflix on Friday 18th September - and honestly, we're shook.

The psychological thriller is a prequel to the acclaimed 1975 psychiatric ward drama, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

You can watch the trailer (through your fingers) here:

At the centre of the story is Nurse Mildred Ratched, the notoriously cold and sadistic villain from the original film - only here, she's 20 years younger.

Set in 1947, a whole two decades prior to the events of the book and classic film starring Jack Nicholson, the series explores the reasons why Nurse Ratched becomes so jaded and bitter, before turning on her patients.

Starring six-time Emmy nominee Sarah Paulson, who earned her horror chops in American Horror Story, the series has a killer cast and crew.

Ryan Murphy - the man who created American Horror Story and gifted us with Glee and Scream Queens - is behind the eight-part series.

Starring alongside Paulson are American Horror Story actor Jon Jon Briones, who plays Dr Richard Hanover, and Sex and the City's Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs.

Elsewhere there's Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood, Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson, Charlie Carver as Huck, Alice Englert as Dolly, Amanda Plummer as Louise and Corey Stoll as Charles Wainwright.

Phew, that's some line-up.

Talking about the series in an interview with Deadline, creator Ryan Murphy said: "It's a big fall show. It's a feminist psychological horror show. We've been done with that for a while. It's the performance of Sarah Paulson's life."

For those who love slow-burn chillers, this is a series to ring in Halloween.

'Ratched' airs on Netflix on Friday, 18th September.
