In news that we're sure will ease your January blues, RuPaul's new show, AJ and the Queen, will air this week on Netflix.

In a change from the competition series, RuPaul's Drag Race, AJ and the Queen is totally different - in fact, it's a scripted comedy series created by Ru and Michael Patrick King - the mastermind behind Sex and the City.

If that wasn't basically a guarantee that it's going to be ah-mazing, it'll also feature some familiar faces from Drag Race.

While Netflix has released some information about the show, as well as a trailer, we've rounded up all the juicy details so you can reach peak excitement while counting down the days.

What's the show about?

We might be used to seeing RuPaul transform into MamaRu on Drag Race, but the new series will see the 59-year-old drag queen in an exciting acting role, instead.

The comedy focuses on Ruby Red (played by RuPaul) - a drag queen who is about to open her own bar after working hard to save up $100,000.

But in a devastating blow, Ruby's money is stolen by her vengeful ex-boyfriend, Arrow (Josh Seggara).

Penniless, Ruby - whose real name is Robert - decides to embark on a tour of America to try and earn back some of the lost money.

Along the way, she discovers 11-year-old AJ (Izzy G), who has been hiding in her camper van. Recently orphaned AJ quickly becomes Ruby's sidekick and the unlikely duo go on to form a close friendship.

Speaking about the new show to Vanity Fair, RuPaul said: "This show isn't about a drag queen in a kids' show. This is about a kid in a drag queen's show.

"It's edgy, and it has some dark themes in there [...] it was something I was eager to explore. To prove to myself that I'm not dead inside. I proved to myself that I could pull those emotions up. It's intoxicating."

Making the series even more exciting, there will also be heaps of extravagant outfits and a musical performance by RuPaul in EVERY episode. We cannot wait.

Who is in the cast?

You won't be disappointed. A whopping 22 Drag Race stars will join RuPaul for the new show.

These include: Valentina, Mayhem Miller, Bianca Del Rio, Eureka O'Hara, Victoria 'Porkchop' Parker, Alexis Mateo, Manila Luzon, Vanessa 'Miss Vanjie' Mateo, Jinx Monsoon, Katya, Jaymes Mansfield, Chad Michaels, Mariah Balenciaga, Kennedy Davenport, Jade Jolie, Ongina, Latrice Royale, Monique Heart, Ginger Minj, Trinity The Tuck, Jujubee and Pandora Box.

Tia Carrere also stars as Lady Danger - who is Arrow's new girlfriend - while Michael Leon Wooley plays Louis, one of Ruby's friends.

When will AJ and the Queen be released?

Just in time to binge watch at the weekend, the ten-part series will be available to stream on Friday 10th January 2020.

And if that wasn't enough for RuPaul fans, you'll be pleased to know a RuPaul's Drag Race festival is coming to the UK on the 18th and 19th January.

RuPaul's DragCon is a festival of art, drag and pop culture and will feature the entire cast of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, including RuPaul and Michelle Visage.

If you can't make the festival, fear not - there's another way to feed your RuPaul obsession.

You can now take a drag queen exercise class in London, with moves including a 'check your nails' bicep curl, and a 'hey girl' shoulder press.

Due to the fact we'll be glued to the sofa for ten hours this weekend, the class could be the perfect antidote...
