Last week, Ricky Gervais' emotional comedy drama, After Life arrived on Netflix for its second season and fans have been blown away by the heartbreaking yet hilarious show.

Not only are viewers calling it "the best show on TV" and a "masterpiece" they've also been inundating the 58-year-old actor and comedian with questions about a third season, too.

If you're yet to watch the show, we highly recommend it - but be warned, you'll be left sobbing uncontrollably in between fits of laughter.

For those who haven't seen it, here's a recap...

The emotional comedy drama centres on local newspaper writer Tony (played by Ricky Gervais) who is grieving for his wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman) who has lost her battle with cancer.

Happy-go-lucky Tony becomes bitter and resentful over what he has lost, angry at the world around him and everyone in it. In response to the crushing grief, he resolves to do whatever he wants, which becomes problematic for those who love him and want to help him come through his grief.

In Season 2, Tony is still struggling, but he's doing his best to restart his life and be a better person. The weight of his grief is intensified by the threat that he could lose his job, with the local newspaper at risk of being shut down.

All the main cast members have returned, including Kerry Godliman (Lisa), Tom Basden (Matt), Tony Way (Lenny), David Bradley (Tony's dad), Ashley Jensen (Nurse), Penelope Wilton (Anne), as well as David Earl, Joe Wilkinson, Mandeep Dhillon, Jo Hartley, Roisin Conaty, Tim Plester and Diane Morgan.

Fans were blown away by the new season, with many admitting to binge-watching all six episodes in one go while others managed it in just one evening. So impressive.

Many fans have been calling for a third season (

One person tweeted: "Another masterpiece by @rickygervais with #AfterLife2, reaches all emotions and with a fantastic soundtrack too! Thanks Ricky!! Legend!!"

While another said: "Just finished #AfterLife2 and it's a work of genius. Can't believe he managed to make it better than the first series. A real emotional rollercoaster that was very tough in bits and absolutely hilarious moments later. A masterpiece."

Meanwhile one fan wrote: "Howling one minute, sobbing the next, Another Ricky Gervais masterpiece Beautifully done."

Thousands of other fans agreed, with many admitting they couldn't stop crying at the emotional comedy.

Hundreds took to Twitter to congratulate Ricky on the "emotional rollercoaster" which left them crying one minute and laughing the next.

One said: "Don't think there's ever been a programme like #AfterLife that can break your heart whilst rolling on the floor with belly laughs at the same time. Bravo @rickygervais."

While another tweeted: "Tried hard to watch one episode a night. Impossible. Last 3 episodes watched back to back tonight in both tears and laughter. It's groundbreaking writing and acting #unique."

"Only Ricky Gervais has the talent to be able to have you laughing and then crying in the space of a minute," said another.

Following the show's return, Ricky took to Twitter in a video to fans, explaining he would love to do a third season.

"I've been saying for a year now I've never had a reaction like it and that grew and grew," he said in a live stream.

"I'd love to do a season three for the first time ever, it looks like it's going to go down a storm, so if this reaction carries on then yes.

"The better it goes down the worse it is for me, you can do something f***ing amazing, and everyone goes: 'Oh god, it's the best thing ever, 10/10.'

"But if you do something else that is 9.5/10 people are like: 'It's f***ing awful, this is the worst show on television', so that's what goes through my mind."

This sounds veeeery positive to us. Fingers crossed...
