After Life fans, good news. Ricky Gervais has revealed he's already finished writing the script for Season 3.

Announcing the news on his Instagram account, 59-year-old Ricky posted a snap of a bottle of whisky, alongside the draft script. He captioned the post: "This calls for a little celebration."

Ricky has certainly been keeping busy during lockdown, having only revealed there would be a third instalment back in March.

At the time, he wrote: "Because so many of you watched #AfterLife2 so quickly and made it Number 1 again, the nice people at @Netflix have suggested that I get off my fat a**e and do another season. This is all your fault."

Season 2 of the drama was a monumental success, and when it dropped on Netflix, fans were desperate for a third.

The emotional comedy drama centres on local newspaper writer Tony (played by Ricky) who is grieving for his wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman) who has lost her battle with cancer.

Happy-go-lucky Tony becomes bitter and resentful over what he has lost, angry at the world around him and everyone in it. In response to the crushing grief, he resolves to do whatever he wants, which becomes problematic for those who love him and want to help him come through his grief.

In Season 2, Tony is still struggling, but he's doing his best to restart his life and be a better person. The weight of his grief is intensified by the threat that he could lose his job, with the local newspaper at risk of being shut down.

When the second season first aired, fans called it a masterpiece and begged the comedian to write a third.

In response, Ricky explained: "I've been saying for a year now I've never had a reaction like it and that grew and grew.

"I'd love to do a season three for the first time ever, it looks like it's going to go down a storm, so if this reaction carries on then yes.

"The better it goes down the worse it is for me, you can do something f***ing amazing, and everyone goes: 'Oh god, it's the best thing ever, 10/10.'

"But if you do something else that is 9.5/10 people are like: 'It's f***ing awful, this is the worst show on television', so that's what goes through my mind."

The bad news is Ricky has confirmed the third season will be the show's last, but since he's already penned the script, it certainly seems like we won't have too much longer to wait...
