*All* the 90s nostalgia.

When it comes to 90s nostalgia, Power Rangers are up there with the likes of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Now the hotly coloured adventure franchise is getting a reboot with a brand new movie directed by Jonathan Entwistle, creator of dark teen angst comedy End of the F*cking World.

It's morphin' time!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, the director is in early talks with Paramount Pictures about directing the feature film.

There's some pressure riding on Entwistle's big screen reimagining of the series. The 2017 remake fell short of box office expectations, making $142 million worldwide following a spend of around $100m.

But given the success of End of the F*cking World, many fans will feel the franchise is in good hands.

"This is good news, a reboot and not a sequel of '17!" wrote one Twitter user. "Gonna be hit or miss but nonetheless exciting news."

Another wrote: "They need to remake it for people who grew up watching Power Rangers. Their reboot two years ago was actually so good!! But they advertised it poorly. If they did an R-rated version for an older audience it would do so much better. Maybe even make it a Netflix exclusive!"

Some were unsure about the nostalgia element. "Again with the nostalgia at full speed! This one actually even time travels back to the 90s, apparently. Similar point raised as with Ghostbusters and many others... is it even bankable to make one of these 80s/90s reboots without the nostalgia angle?"

With rumours circulating that the movie will drop in 2021 or 2022, Twitter is full of discussion about the best timing for the release of the film.

"They should release the new movie in 2023. Between 2021 and 2022 the cinema will have Marvel and DC eclipsing everything," wrote one commentator, pointing to box office competition.

"We also have finals of popular franchises like Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Fast & Furious. Keanu Reeves competing against Keanu Reeves. 2023 is better," they added.

That's more than enough time to invest in some colour-coded lycra. Power of Water, Power of Light, Powers Unite.
