Brentford's sickest pirate radio crew are taking Japan for their first feature-length film - and they've just released a first look picture AND the release date.

People Just Do Nothing, the award-winning BBC Three mockumentary which has enjoyed five series, is currently working on a movie which sees MC Grindah and his motley crew head East - and we're not talking Hackney.

The cult series follows the trials and tribulations of Grindah and his mandem as they seek to make take their illegal radio channel, Kurupt FM, worldwide. Series five ended with the boys releasing a mix-tape after touring, with their manager Chabuddy G at the helm.

Production has started on People Just Do Nothing: Big In Japan with filming beginning in both Japan and the UK. BBC Three released a first-look photo to celebrate...

Plot-wise, life has been quiet for the Kurupt FM boys since the end of their pirate radio station - but not for long. News reaches them that one of their tunes has been played on a popular gameshow in Japan.

Taking this as their big break, the boys naturally head straight to Japan to enjoy their fame and fortune.

Chabuddy G enthusiastically steps back into his management role as Grindah, Beats, Steves and Decoy begin their journey to international stardom. But is Japan really ready for Kurupt FM?

People Just Do Nothing: Big In Japan stars Allan Mustafa (MC Grindah), Hugo Chegwin (DJ Beats), Asim Chaudhry (Chabuddy G), Steve Stamp (Steves), Dan Sylvester (Decoy), Lily Brazier (Miche), Hitomi Souno (Miki) and Ken Yamamura (Taka).

The film is set for release in the UK and Ireland in August 2020 according to Deadline - and we reckon that will fly by. Exciting.

MC Grindah says: "Japan is the most advanced city in the world so it makes perfect sense that they would recognise our lyrical talent. We can't wait to go over there and completely destroy the music scene. In a good way."

Chabuddy G says: "You know me, I can sell anything mate. Ice to an Eskimo, halal meat to a racist vegan... selling garage music to Japan is water off a ducks beak mate."

The film is produced by Roughcut, developed by BBC Films and BBC Comedy and financed by Focus Features and BBC Films.

It's also the first BBC Three series to be developed into a film.
