*This article contains major spoilers for You season two*

Ever since we finished watching the second season of You, we've been left wondering - who *was* Joe peeping at through the fence?

While fans have been adamant that the woman next door was actually Joe's mother, Penn Badgley has provided another nugget of information about season three, by revealing that - sorry - it's not.

At the end of season two, just when we thought Joe could finally be happy with Love (Victoria Pedretti), their unborn baby and their fancy new home, writers hit us with a sharp reality check - Joe is a stalker and a serial killer, remember?

Standing in the garden of his new house, he spots his female neighbour through a gap in the fence - and that creepy, troubling voiceover returns.

"This is just the beginning. Because this is where I had to be exactly where I had to be to meet you," says Joe.

"There you were with your books and your sunshine, so close but worlds away. I will figure out a way. A way to get to you. See you soon, neighbour."

Ever since, fans have been guessing who the woman is - but thanks to Penn, we can now rule out his mother.

Viewers were left in the dark over the whereabouts of Joe's mum (hopefully, this will be clarified in the next series) but In an interview with Bustle the actor cleared up the rumours.

"She's definitely not his mom. I can say that," he explained.

Ever since season two was released on Boxing Day, Penn has been treating us to bits of info about the next instalment.

In fact, it was the former Gossip Girl star, 33, who revealed there *would* be a season three.

Penn has been dropping major clues about season three (

Discussing the moment Love admitted she had murdered both Candace (Ambyr Childers) and Delilah (Carmela Zumbado), the actor told Entertainment Tonight: "She doesn't appear to be the same kind of person. She doesn't appear to be the same kind of predator.

"She doesn't appear to be the same kind of... you know, dare I say, in the third season - oh, god!"

Oopps.

Co-creator Sera Gamble also revealed that they "have a lot of stories still to tell" in You, explaining to The Hollywood Reporter: "I am not scared at all of saying that we definitely could follow Joe for several more seasons."

Season three is expected to air at some point next year, but in the meantime, if you do have any more teasers for us Penn, we are all ears...
