We've finally got our first glimpse at Peaky Blinders season 6.

Pictures taken in Portsoy Harbour, Aberdeenshire this week show Cillian Murphy and Finn Cole on set - and it's fair to say things are looking tense between the pair, who play Tommy Shelby and Michael Gray, following their season 5 showdown.

Michael, who conspired with wife Gina to overthrow Tommy in the finale, appeared to be dressed in prison scrubs as guards held him back from fighting with his cousin.

It comes just three weeks after the BBC confirmed the sixth and final installment was back in filming.

Back in January, creator Steven Knight said: "Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.

"We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form."

Executive producer Tommy Bulfin added: "We are very excited that filming for Peaky Blinders has begun and so grateful to everyone for all their hard work to make it happen. Steve's scripts for series six are truly remarkable and provide a fitting send-off which we are sure will delight fans."

The popular drama was shut down - like every other show - back in March 202, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the show's director, director Anthony Byrne reflected: "We were five days away from filming and Cillian was three days away from having his hair cut. There was part of me that wished Cillian had managed to have his hair cut before we shut down.

"But that's where we were, and it was obviously bittersweet when we did shut down, because it feels like it's so long ago now, but the spectre of the coronavirus was looming larger and larger every day... and we were like 'it does not feel like we should be [filming].

"The realistic practicalities of filming now have completely changed. It's a completely new world."

Ever since, fans have been speculating as to when the BBC show would be back. Speculation begun after Loz Schiavo, the show's hair and make-up artist, shared a picture of Cillian's freshly snipped hair on the floor earlier today, writing #Tommysback.

He later deleted the image, but not before some eagle-eyed fans saw.

While an exact date for the new series is yet to be announced, Finn Cole, who plays Michael Gray on the show, previously suggested that the upcoming season could be back on telly by the end of the year.

Speaking to NME, he said: "I'm hoping that we can go back to work next year and that we can have things ready for you by the end of the year.

"I can't wait to get back to work and for the fans to see it because they've been waiting so patiently for so long now; it's about time we gave them something."

If you need us, we'll be re-watching Peaky Blinders eagerly in time for the new season's arrival.

We. Cannot. Wait.
