Paddington 3 is a-go, it has been confirmed.

Fans of the marmalade-loving bear have ben waiting for news of a third movie instalment for some time, after some rather big hints that it was on the way.

And now we have news that the film is in development, according to Variety.

Representatives from the film's production company told the publication: "We can confirm Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care - as with film 1 and 2."

It comes after Hugh Bonneville teased the movie's return on BBC Radio 2's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show last week, saying vaguely that it was "somewhere on the horizon".

As the movie is in such early stages, we don't yet have any plot details, or information about who will be starring.

Ben Wishaw, who voices Paddington in the first two films, also lent his voice to the TV series The Adventures of Paddington, so it's likely he'll be returning for the third instalment, too.

Imelda Staunton, who pays Aunt Lucy, is also expected to be returning, as a recurring character. Meanwhile, Michael Gambo, who voices Uncle Pastuzo, could also be back for flashbacks.

We also know that Hugh Grant is keen to return villain Phoenix Buchanan, and has even teased the idea of collaborating with Nicole Kidman - who starred as Millicent in the first movie.

One thing we do know is that sadly, Paul King is unlikely to be directing, as he is working on the new Wonka film. He will still be involved, though, sources say.

The first instalment of the live-action adaptation burst onto screens in November 2014 and enjoyed huge success, topping the UK box office for two weeks - then, in 2017, the second instalment, Paddington 2, was released with similar success.

In the first film, young bear Paddington arrived in London after his home in Peru was destroyed by an earthquake. The bear is taken in with the Browns and all seems to be looking up for him, until he is spotted by taxidermist Millicent Clyde, played by Kidman, who has her eye on his hide for her museum.

The second film sees Paddington embark on a quest to catch a thief (Grant) who has stolen a rare, prized book from an antique shop, which he planned to gift his Aunt Lucy for her 100th birthday.

Whatever the plot of the third movie, we're sure it'll be a fun-filled family adventure (with a side of lots of marmalade sandwiches).

We'll update you as soon as we know more!
