Movie sequels sometimes fail to live up to the original, but this is not the case for Paddington 2.

Loved and appreciated by audiences of all ages and critics, Paddington 2 has now secured quite a spectacular accolade and it's totally deserved. It has been crowned the greatest movie of all time.

Paddington 2 has surpassed the 1941 drama film Citizen Kane, after an old negative review for the Orson Welles-directed flick was unearthed from the time of its release.

After the previously overlooked review from critic Mae Tinee from the Chicago Tribune , called 'Citizen Kane Fails', was added to Rotten Tomatoes, Citizen Kane dropped from a perfect, 100% fresh 'tomatometer' score to a still impressive 99%.

The tomatometer score is based on the percentage of professional critic reviews that are positive. The number of positive reviews also affects the score. Citizen Kane has 116 reviews in total while Paddington 2 has 244 reviews and a perfect 100% score.

Always the one to be polite, Paddington reacted to the news on Twitter. "I do hope Mr Kane won't be too upset when he hears I've overtaken him with rotten tomatoes," he told his 200k followers.

Overall, there are around 400 films rated 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. The site has a page dedicated to what it calls the '100% club', an exclusive group of films with a perfect score and at least 40 reviews.

Paddington is in good company, with the other films in the list including Toy Story and Toy Story 2, Pinocchio, Frankenstein and The Terminator. Paddington 2 comes out on top because it has a higher number of positive reviews.

For fans of the Paddington films, this should come as no surprise. The 2017 family film has won the hearts of audiences around the world and was showered with acclaim upon release. Directed by Paul King, the film received three Baftas nominations including best British film.

After the events in the first Paddington film from 2014, the sequel picks up where we left off. Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw) who tries to get the most wonderful present for his aunt's birthday. When the gift is stolen, he is arrested and imprisoned and he and the Brown family have to find a way to prove his innocence.

Fans of the marmalade-loving bear will be pleased to know that a third film is currently in development.

Representatives from the film's production company told the publication: "We can confirm Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care - as with film 1 and 2."

Congratulations Paddington - you deserve it!
