Netflix has confirmed the premiere date for the season season of its popular teen drama Outer Banks.

Fans won't have to wait long to catch up with the 'Pogues' after the streaming network announced that the new season will drop 30th July 2021.

The show is set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and follows a group of teens as they investigate what happened to their friend John B's missing father and the legendary treasure he found.

In the season finale, John B fleeing the police after being framed for murder. Along with Sarah, he makes his escape via boat - which ends up capsizing in a tropical storm.

Everyone presumes they are dead, but the pair manage to survive after being rescued by another boat. They then make it their mission to head to the Bahamas to take back the wreckage - and the gold.

The teaser for season 2 sees J.J., Kiara and Pope pay tribute to their friends who are presumably lost at sea.

However, in a shocking twist of fate, the teaser shows John B and Sarah in the Bahamas as they continue the search for the gold.

The first season premiered during lockdown in April last year and quickly grew a dedicated fanbase. In May, as more fans called for a second season, co-creator Jonas Pate announced that Netflix had ordered another instalment.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jonas explained the streaming platform had given the green light for a Season 2 even before Season 1 was released.

He said: "Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons.

"We've sort of long-arced it out pretty far. I'm just hoping that we get a chance to actually tell those stories.

"Before [Season 1] even came out, Netflix had green-lit us to write some [Season 2] scripts, so we've been working on that for a few months now."
