The Chase welcomed its oldest ever contestant on Monday - but viewers were left heartbroken when she made an unfortunate blunder that left her no time to answer the final question.

She certainly entertained host, Bradley Walsh, with her wit, but, as a result, was sadly not fast enough to answer her last question, sending her out of the competition.

The 91-year-old icon pulled no punches when she went head to head with the Vixen and quipped she'd do a better job than host, Bradley Walsh at presenting.

She mocked as she tried to get back to her team with the £1,000 prize: "I could do your job at a pinch, you know that, don't you?"

Stunned, he replied: "Pardon?"

She repeated: "You can be replaced."

When he asked by who, she pointed to herself, leaving him looking shocked and amused.

When Brad told a joke that left Jean from Coventry unimpressed, she made a deadpan remark telling him to "get on with the game."

When asked what she would have spent the money on Jean revealed that she wanted to take her three great-grandchildren to Disneyland and, to viewers' delight, some Botox.

Viewers loved her on-screen banter with Bradley and took to social media to express their love for the elderly contestant.

One said on Twitter: "Classic from 91 years young Jean after Bradley's job. #TheChase."

Another commented: "JEAN IS AN ABSOLUTE ICON MATE. WE STAN #THECHASE."

Others picked up on some of her self-deprecating humour about her advanced years: "Jean 91 says she wants botox, absolutely brilliant. #TheChase."

Some found her wry sense of humour inspirational: "Jean from #TheChase is giving me absolute life. If I ever get to 91 and a half I want to be like her."

Others were devastated when she crashed out of the competition.

One tweeted: "Aww poor Jean. #TheChase."

Another said: "Gutted Jean didn't get through #TheChase."

Bradley asked her who the most famous person she had met was, and her response was unexpected: "[I had] lunch with Elizabeth Taylor's husband," she told him. "It was her fifth husband, John Warner... terribly posh."

Despite being offered a lower offer of £91, Jean stuck with the middle offer of £1,000.

But in spite of her valiant efforts, Jean was ultimately caught by the Vixen.

However, she didn't seem too upset when she grinned at Bradley and told him emphatically how much she'd enjoyed her time on the show.

And it looked like the feeling was mutual with both nice guy, Bradley and the usually-stoney-faced Vixen returning the sentiments.

The Vixen joked that her "own granny Jean" would be angry about her.

The other three contestants on the show managed to win £16,000 in the 'Final Chase'.
