Fans 'Overcome With Emotion' After Watching BBC Adaptation Of Malorie Blackman's 'Noughts & Crosses'

Noughts + Crosses, the long-awaited BBC adaptation of Malorie Blackman's best-selling book, finally hit screens last night to a rapturous reception.

Starring Jack Rowan (Peaky Blinders), Masali Baduza (Tracker) and Stormzy no less, fans who grew up reading the book were excited to see how the broadcaster would tackle the story, and indeed, the tough themes.

Set in an alternate history, in which African people won technological advantage over European people and made them their slaves, Noughts and Crosses centres of the lives of two lovers Sephy Hadley (Masali) and Callum McGregor (Rowan).

Although slavery has been abolished in the years its set, there's still social divides in which blacks rules over whites.

Sephy - a 'Cross' and member of the black ruling class - and Callum - a white 'Nought' - are forced to keep their relationship secret as interracial relationships are banned.

As a powerful rebellion mounts on e streets, the couple's passionate romance threatens to put their lives at risk.

Already, viewers on Twitter have been calling the drama "stunning" and "incredible".

"Little sis and I bit emotional watching @malorieblackman's #NoughtsAndCrosses on @BBCOne. This series captured our imaginations when we were kids - wild to see it on prime time TV nearly 20 years on. What a treat!," wrote one viewer.

"That was freaking incredible! I am feeling so many emotions right now," raved another.

"Yes i have already watched it all, and yes I am in tears," said a third.
