After the ending of BBC's Normal People, we were probably as heartbroken and Marianne and Connell.

We'd watched their romance blossom through the years before our eyes, only to discover that Connell was jetting to New York, and they were going to be apart once more.

Part of us always hoped they'd find each other again, while another part assumed they were meant to be star-crossed lovers, missing each other at every milestone.

But now we might actually be able to find out what became of them both, as the show's director, Lenny Abrahamson has teased "revisiting" them in five years, for season 2 of the show.

Eeeeek!

Speaking to Deadline, Lenny confirmed: "We've talked about the possibility of how interesting it would be to check back in with them".

However, he added that "apart from just general musings and over a drink", no concrete conversations had gone on.

He added: "As Sally [Rooney] says, the book stops where it stops because it feels right.

"But, I have a sneaking thing in the back of my head that if everybody was willing, and if the stars aligned, I'd love to revisit them in five years and find out what happened, where they are.

"Is somebody a father or a mother? What relationships are they in that then get disrupted by their meeting again?

"But it would be really strange to pick that up eight weeks later with him traveling to New York, I think. There needs to be time."

While the prospect of a third season has certainly got us excited, it sounds like there may well be a lengthy weight, if we ever get one at all.

But, we can't say that Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones don't spoil us, seeing us they just treated us to a Comic Relief special, with none other than Fleabag's Andrew Scott (aka the Hot Priest).
