Ever since Normal People aired on BBC earlier this year, we've been wanting to hear more from our favourite characters - Connell (played by Paul Mescal) and Marianne (Daisy Edgar Jones).

Now, fans are in for an absolute treat as it's been confirmed the two are teaming up for a Comic Relief special in Ireland.

Richard Curtis, Comic Relief co-founder, writer and director, dished the news during a chat on RTÉ Radio 1's Sunday with Miriam show earlier this week.

He confirmed that Paul and Daisy, as well as Normal People director Lenny Abrahamson, would be appearing on RTÉ One at 8pm on Friday 26th June.

Host Miriam said: "I saw a lovely clip about this coming Friday that Emma Freud, your partner who's also the exec producer of Comic Relief in the UK, where you have seen a sketch involving the two stars of Normal People, the blockbuster hit of course, and you love it, don't you?"

To which Richard replied: "Oh I was furious. It's so much better than anything we've ever made. I mean I can't even say all about it because there's a guest star in it. But it's really, it's really beautiful.

"One of the things about Comic Relief is it just gives opportunities for things to happen that would never happen.

"I can't imagine any context in which they would have allowed this little sort of extra special into the world of Normal People."

Arghh, it sounds like it's going to be so good, right?!

And, if you can believe it, the news just gets better. Richard also revealed there would be not one but two specials on the night.

He even gave a teaser into the plot of one, which is called Normal Older People.

"And you guys have got two, there's a beautiful piece called Normal Older People, which is imagining what would have happened to Marianne and Connell 40 years from now.

"I promise you, these are two very special bits.

"[...] Honestly, I just got sent the rundown of everything that's going to be happening on the night.

"I was thinking what's it like, and it's like a fridge in a hotel where you open it up and you see all these perfect little miniatures. You think, 'Well, I'll have all of them.' There are so many great bits."

Although fans outside of Ireland won't be able to tune into RTÉ One, we're hoping the specials will be available to watch on YouTube in only a matter of time.

We can't wait - all we ask is that Connell's chain makes an appearance too please...
