The Undoing has undoubtedly been one of our favourite shows of the year. The psychological thriller helped to us sane and entertained through the second lockdown.

Now that the first season has wrapped after keeping us at the edge of our seats, the show's star and executive producer Nicole Kidman has hinted at a second series of The Undoing after the final episode aired this week.

The Academy Award winning actress also paid an emotional tribute to her cast and crew, including her on-screen husband Hugh Grant.

Taking to Instagram, Nicole shared some cute snaps from behind the scenes with the caption: "I'm forever grateful for each and every member of our cast & crew of #TheUndoing.

"They poured their hearts and souls into our show and it showed throughout the entire season  Greatly looking forward to working with all of you again xx"

While this could be a reference to actors crossing paths on different projects throughout their career, fans were quick to suggest Nicole was hinting at a second season.

The Undoing is based on Jean Hanff's 2014 novel 'You Should have Known' and was ordered by the American network HBO as a limited series.

The killer was unmasked in the final episode and technically the story wrapped up. Without giving any spoilers away, there is scope for more story after where we left the remaining characters after the grand finale.

The show could take queues from Nicole's other smash hit mystery series, HBO's Big Little Lies.

After solving the big murder in the first season, the show proved to be so popular HBO ordered another season. The second followed the aftermath of Perry's death.

Like The Undoing, Big Little Lies is based on a novel, by Australian writer Liane Moriarty and was originally announced by HBO, the same network that gave us Game of Thrones, as a miniseries meaning it would only have one season.

Nicole may actually be the queen of hinting because she revealed in October that Big Little Lies could return for a third season next year.

During an interview on Zoe Ball's Radio 2 show, Nicole said: "I have an inkling there will [be a third season] Reese and I talk about it a lot and Zoe [Kravitz], Shay [Woodley], all of us, Laura [Dern] - who is actually over there now, she's in London right now."

Nicole revealed Liane is hard at work crafting a follow-up book which may form the basis of a potential third season.

"Liane's writing a book, so hopefully that will result in a third series," Nicole said. "I can't say that it will be next year, but it might be... it might be. "

For those who have not seen The Undoing (yet) Nicole plays a therapist, Grace Fraser, whose perfect life falls apart when a shocking accusation is made against her husband, played by Hugh Grant.

We would love to see a second season!
