While fans patiently continue their almost two year-long wait for the second season of Mindhunter to drop onto Netflix (FYI, that'll be at some point in August), details are beginning to drip feed through on the plot, like other notorious serial killers it will feature.

The author of the original book of which the true-crime series is based, John Douglas, who has now revealed that the forthcoming instalment will feature David Berkowitz, also known as Son of Sam.

"They are going to have David Berkowitz, as well as Charles Manson," said the former FBI agent during a recent chat with Vulture.

He also added that the show will follow "the Atlanta child killings in the early '80s".

Fans already knew that the series would feature Charles Manson, with Damon Herriman set to portray the killer and cult leader (he also has the same role in upcoming film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood).

Berkowitz (who was also called the .44 Caliber Killer by the media) was an American serial killer who terrorised the New York City area from July 1976 to July 1977.

He killed six people and wounded seven in that year by shooting them, and also claimed to have stabbed two women using a hunting knife on Christmas even in 1965. One of those women was Michelle Forman, and the other was never identified.

At one of his crime scenes, police found a handwritten letter to to the NYPD captain, in which Berkowitz referred to himself as the Son of Sam, and said he would continue his shooting sprees.

After his attacks on defenceless couples intensified, Berkowitz made a series of blunders that led to his eventual arrest. "Well, you got me. How come it took you such a long time?" he allegedly told police at the time of his capture.

He remains in prison to this day, after being served six consecutive life sentences for the string of murders.

It's unclear who has been cast to portray the serial killer in Mindhunter, but Jonathon Groff will be returning as Special Agent Holden Ford as will Holt McCallany as Bill Tench and Anna Torv as psychologist, Dr. Wendy Carr.

Cameron previously teased his return.

Whether Cameron Britton will return as Edward Kemper remains to be seen, but needless to say we cannot wait for Mindhunter season two to land on Netflix in August.
