New pictures give Game Of Thrones fans an insight into what we can expect from season eight, episode two, after an intrigue-filled first instalment set the events in motion for an explosive final series.

The newly-released pictures show the characters gearing up for the much-anticipated Battle of Winterfell, with plenty of awkward confrontations on the way.

One picture shows Jaime Lannister coming face to face with Daenerys Targaryen, sure to be an uncomfortable encounter after having killed her father Aerys Targaryen, the Mad King, years before.
We've also been given extra insight into this meeting, with a trailer for episode two showing Daenerys bestowing one of her killer glares on Jaime and saying: "When I was a child, my brother would tell me a bedtime story about the man who murdered our father and all the things we would do to that man."

As well as Jaime vs Daenerys, the new pictures show Samwell Tarly looking upset as he talks to his most trusted friend, Jon Snow.
We can only assume this difficult conversation is picking up from last week's episode, in which Sam told Jon about his true heritage as the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. But what will Jon do? Will he break the news to Daenerys or brush it under the carpet? And how does he feel about the fact he's been romancing his aunt?

In other photos, Missandei and Grey Worm (possibly our favourite romance of the entire season) are pictured deep in conversation, Samwell, little Samwell and Gilly are shown having an intimate family moment, and Bran is up to his usual savage self as the Three-Eyed Raven, staring deeply at people while knowing all their secrets.

Daenerys is also pictured looking particularly regal with all her advisers, Ser Davos Seaworth is looking stressed and cooking and Lady Lyanna Mormont is shown in her armour, no doubt making some very valid points about the upcoming war.

The final series of Game of Thrones airs on Mondays at 2am and 9pm on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW TV in the UK and Ireland.
