The trailer for Midsommar - director Ari Aster's follow-up film to 2018's terrifying Hereditary - is finally here, and it looks just as terrifying as you'd expect.
Midsommar (that's Swedish for midsummer), starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, and Will Poulter, is set for release on 3rd July 2019.
Watch the trailer with the sound off, and Midsommar won't strike you as a horror movie at all. It's bright, full of saturated colours, exaggerated smiles and set in a perpetually sunny village in Sweden. In fact, it looks positively jolly, that is until things begin to turn dark - and only in the literal sense.

The plot tells the story of Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor), a young couple whose relationship is on the brink of ending when they decide to go to an exclusive Swedish festival with Christian's friends. But of course, it doesn't turn out to be all flower crowns and campfires.
Production company A24 explained: "After a family tragedy keeps them together, a grieving Dani invites herself to join Christian and his friends on a trip to a once-in-a-lifetime midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village.

"What begins as a carefree summer holiday in a land of eternal sunlight takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that render the pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing.
"From the visionary mind of Ari Aster comes a dread-soaked cinematic fairytale where a world of darkness unfolds in broad daylight."
While it's not clear what these 'festivities' exactly are, we can glean a few clues from the trailer.
At the start of the trailer, which is set to creepy violins, we see a lot of dancing around in circles, eating delicious food and downing shots. Not unlike any normal festival then?
Later on, it appears that the young revellers begin to realise their festival is not all as it seems, when they start to have visions and are made to participate in less-than-legit rituals, like disembowelling bears, jumping off cliffs and spreading blood down a wall. You know, the usual.

Naturally, people are super excited for director Ari Aster's follow-up to Hereditary, the 2018 horror that tells the story of a grieving family who are haunted by the terrifying secrets of their ancestry, which terrified fans on its release.
Whether it matches up to Hereditary or not, the trailer has left us with a lot of questions that need answering. NOW.
