True Crime docuseries New Scotland Yard Files is airing its third episode tonight which will look into the murder of Alice Gross.

The 10-part TV series will look at some of London's most notorious killers through the eyes of New Scotland Yard detectives and this episode will focus on the sexually motivated murder of Alice and the main suspect in the case, Arnis Zalkalns

Zalkalns was never prosecuted, because he hung himself before the police could arrest him, but had he lived, New Scotland Yard said in 2015 that charges would have been brought against him.

But the mystery surrounding this awful attack on a 14-year-old girl didn't end there, as people were in uproar at the time because he'd been allowed to enter the UK unchecked, despite having had a murderous past in Latvia.

Now, the show will delve deeper into the case and the events that led up to Alice's awful death, explaining how detectives look at each case with the ABCs - accept nothing, believe nobody and challenge everything.

We'll get insights from the presenter and former DCI, Peter Bleksley, who has featured on Channel 4's Hunted, journalists who worked on the story at the time and detective Carl Mehta who was assigned to this case, admitting he straight away feared the worst.

Piecing together what happened to Alice took detectives to Latvia, where they discovered the troubled history of Zalkalns.

Sounds like one that will keep us gripped, but it's not the only case in the series. The next episode sounds just as harrowing but mysterious.

The synopsis reads: "When police found a man on fire, they assumed he did that to himself. His family campaigned for justice for two years and New Scotland Yard re-investigated the case."
