Netflix show White Lines has been axed - after just one season.

According to actor Daniel Mays, who played DJ Marcus Ward in the TV drama, the streaming service will not be renewing the show for a second instalment.

In a post he shared on his Instagram, Daniel wrote: "Following the reports in the press over the past couple of days and for all those asking me on here, it's with a heavy heart I post the #WhiteLines season 2 ship has well and truly sailed."

Say it isn't so, Daniel!

The actor also thanked Netflix for the "ride of a lifetime" and spared a thought for his fans too.

"Love to the incredible cast & crew and to all the amazing fans for watching around the globe.

"Your support for the show meant the world to us. So THANK YOU!

"Farewell Marcus.........you were my favourite."

The Netflix show followed Zoe (Laura Haddock) as she tried to discover what had happened to her brother (

Daniel later added that he thought the reason behind the show's axing was because the ending of its first season was "tied up".

He said: "Part of me thinks it was tied up, you found out who killed Axel, so it works as a limited series but it clearly also had scope going forward for much more."

News of the show's axing comes days after co-star Angela Griffin, who played Anna, recently revealed that things were "very quiet on the White Lines hotline".

During a recent online event for the West End's Theatre Royal Haymarket, she revealed: "Will there be a series two of White Lines? I don't think so."

The show's first season followed Laura Haddock's Zoe on a trip to Ibiza, after her brother Axel's body is discovered 20 years after he went missing.

White Lines season one is available to watch on Netflix now.
