Netflix's new original Maniac was only released last week but it has already caused a stir and got everyone talking.

The comedy drama starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone is seriously messing with people's heads as it follows two strangers who sign up to take part in a unique three-day drug trial.

The show's official synopsis says: "Two struggling strangers connect during a mind-bending pharmaceutical trial involving a doctor with mother issues and an emotionally complex computer.

We can't go into too much detail but the 10-episode series follows Annie Landsberg and Owen Milgrim signing up to take part in the drug trial, which promises to solve all their problems and heal past traumas forever, but it doesn't go to plan.

Emma Stone stars as Annie, a struggling New Yorker who can't stop thinking about her failed relationships with her mother and sister.

Jonah Hill plays Owen, who is part of a scandalous and wealthy family, and has schizophrenia.

Maniac also stars Justin Theroux as Dr Mantleray, a role he was given the chance to 'flesh out' with his own ideas.

Speaking about the character, Theroux said: "I came in late into the process, we got to try and invent him a little bit, the look and the tone of the character. He's in this bizarre bubble of neuroses at the lab.

"Cary was very good at letting me go very far with the character and then pulling him back. I really loved that."

As wells as Theroux the series also stars Sally Field, Julia Garner and Jemima Kirke.

Emma gave an interview about Maniac to Elle Magazine about working with Superbad co-star Jonah.

She said: "The thing I liked about 'Maniac' was that it's about people who have their own internal struggles and are trying to fix them with a pill.

"But you see over the course of the show that human connection and love is really the only thing that gets us through life. I liked that idea."

She added: "I love Jonah [Hill]. I had worked with him on the first movie I ever so it was, like, 11 years later.

"Obviously lots of things have happened in the past 11 years, so it was nice to just get to be around each other."
