Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness landed on Netflix this week and people are calling it "mental".

The show focuses on Joseph Maldonado-Passage (aka Joe Exotic) - a prolific big cat breeder who ran a zoo in Oklahoma and became a local celebrity thanks to his eccentric personality - he even unsuccessfully ran for president.

But things turned sinister when Maldonado-Passage was sentenced to 22 years in prison for wildlife violations and two murder-for-hire plots against longtime critic and rival Carole Baskin, an animal rights activist.

The whole story is messed up and people have been blown away by the madness of it.

One took to Twitter to say: "Tiger king on Netflix is f**king mental". [sic]

Another added: "The TIGER KING is about to ROAR on Netflix! I just finished the entire series and It. Is. WILD. Like, insane! A FASCINATING story featuring an INCREDIBLE cast of characters. Scott Stuber HAS to know there's a 2-hour feature comedy in there. Maybe @RedHourBen & @MelissaMcCarthy".

A third penned: "If you haven't watched Tiger King yet on Netflix...Holy Sh*t".

A fourth commented in disbelief: "Dawgggggg this 'Tiger King' documentary on Netflixis f**king CRAAAAAZZZZZZZYYYYYYY..... one of the craziest ive ever seen".

Whilst others simply referred to it as "wacky" and "A LOT".

The show, by the producer behind FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, delves into the downfall of mullet-sporting, gun-wielding Maldonado-Passage.

He loved that he owned the largest tiger collection in America, but he did not like his critic, Carole, owner of a wildlife sanctuary in Oklahoma.

Riled by her efforts to bring him down, disagreeing with his ethics around his treatment and breeding of the big cats, she ended up filing a civil lawsuit and won $1million.

Incited by the need for revenge, Joe Exotic ended up going down a dark path, one that led him to orchestrate Carole's murder, which luckily never came to fruition.

He attempted to hire people on several occasions to murder her.

Joe was found guilty of two counts of murder-for-hire, eight counts of violating the Lacey Act (prohibition of illegal wildlife trade) and nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act.

Don't say you've not been warned about the madness. We hear it gets gory in places as well as disturbing over the treatment of animals. Just a heads up.
