Netflix has just dropped the first trailer for Sarah Paulson's new series, Ratched, and it looks *so* good.

You can watch it here...

Ratched is based on the 1962 novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and focuses on - you guessed it - Nurse Ratched.

And if you're an American Horror Story fan, this one is definitely for you.

The prequel series is set in 1947 and focuses on Mildred Ratched (played by Sarah Paulson) before she became the cold-hearted mental health nurse portrayed in the novel.

As Netflix explain: "The series is set to be an origin story of sorts taking us back to before Nurse Ratched had evolved to the monster by exploiting people in the mental health care system."

The psychological drama sees Mildred arrive in northern California in 1947, looking for employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind.

And if the trailer is anything to go by, it's going to be a gripping (and terrifying) watch.

Although Nurse Ratched portrays herself as everything a professional and dedicated nurse should be, she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it.

As Netflix explain, "Mildred's stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born."

Speaking to Vanity Fair about Nurse Ratched's character, Sarah said: "I identified very deeply with her loneliness. I think ultimately at the end of the day, that is sort of what drives Mildred.

"A pursuit of survival and of finding some sense of home. Even though the methods that she chooses to achieve that internal security are somewhat questionable, I would argue that she's doing them with a potentially selfish need, but a survival need nevertheless.

"Sort of an animal need that blinds her to the inappropriateness of some her actions."

Also starring alongside Sarah Paulson is fellow American Horror Story actor Jon Jon Briones, who plays Dr Richard Hanover.

Sex and the City's Cynthia Nixon also stars as Gwendolyn Briggs, Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood, Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson, Charlie Carver as Huck, Alice Englert as Dolly, Amanda Plummer as Louise and Corey Stoll as Charles Wainwright. What a line up!

All eight episodes of the series will drop on Netflix on Friday 18th September. We've got a feeling we'll be watching this one through our fingers...
