Netflix has just dropped the trailer for Criminal Season 2 and it looks so gripping.

You can watch it here:

The brand new season will arrive on the streaming platform on Wednesday 16th September following the success of the first series, which starred David Tennant, The Duchess star Hayley Atwell and Marcella's Youssef Kerkour.

As we learn in the trailer, the "cat and mouse drama" will see four new cases and four new suspects. Just like the first season, it takes place entirely within the claustrophobic confines of a police interview room, and "focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects".

Katherine Kelly (Liar) will return to her role as Detective Inspector Natalie Hobbs, meanwhile Lee Ingleby (Broadchurch) will continue as Tony Myserscough and Rochenda Sandall (Line Of Duty) plays interviewer Vanessa Warren.

It airs on 16th September (

This time, there's a very impressive list of guest stars, too - Kit Harington, Sharon Horgan, Sophie Okonedo and Kunal Nayyar.

Viewers also get a glimpse inside the personal lives of the detectives, with the first season featuring a potential romance between Katherine Kelly's character, Detective Inspector Natalie Hobbs and Lee Ingleby's character, Tony Myserscough.

It's unclear whether this will continue into the second season, but as they are both returning, it seems likely!

Sharon Horgan also stars (

The first season of Criminal also had three international versions in France, Spain and Germany which followed different stories and characters.

While it seems the UK version is the only one to be continuing for a second season at present, creator Jim Field Smith has previously said he would love to do more in other countries.

With just a two weeks before the second season drops, Netflix says we should "prepare for bold stories, some surprises, and a completely innovative take on the police procedural".

The countdown is on...
